The friends I kept meaning to text

Every Tuesday my system hands me ten names I haven't talked to in a while. It remembers who it already picked, so nobody gets skipped and nobody gets pestered.

You needthe Claude app, free plan, and one list of names.
OptionalPro, $20 a month, runs the Sunday pick on a schedule.

Set it up once

1

Make your list

Fill the My People sheet from the kit: every name you would be sad to lose touch with. Forty is normal. Don't rank them.

2

Make the project

Projects, New project, name it My People. Add content and upload the sheet. Paste this into the instructions:

Copy and paste

Using the My People file in this project, pick five people I should reach out to this week. Rotate through everyone before repeating anyone, and keep a running list of who you have already picked and when; show it at the bottom every time. For each of the five, write one warm two-line opener that asks about their life, not mine. If I tell you I skipped someone, offer them again sooner.

3

Ask for the week

Tap the sound wave and say: who should I reach out to this week. Five names and a two-line opener for each come back.

4

Send two before coffee is done

Skip the ones that don't feel right, and say who you skipped so it offers them again sooner.

5

Set the alarm

Sunday morning, labelled My People.

What it hands back

A real replyRun once on September 2, 2026 against a sample brain dump. Trimmed, not edited.

Here are your five for this week:

Erin W
Hey Erin! How’s everything going with you lately—work, kids, life in general? Would love a real update whenever you have a minute.

Karen (carpool)
Hi Karen! Beyond carpool logistics, how are you actually doing these days? Anything fun or stressful going on I should know about?

Priya
Hey Priya, it’s been a while—how’s life treating you right now? I’d love to hear what’s new with you and yours.

Aunt Deb
Hi Aunt Deb! How have you been feeling lately, and what’s new in your world? Would love to catch up soon.

Marcus & Jen
Hey you two! How’s everything on your end—work, home, all of it? Would love to hear how life’s been treating you.

Running list (rotation order, pick 1 of 1 so far):

7 more lines follow.

Why I built this

I was fine at friendship. My problem was remembering whose turn it was. The five people I see every week got all of me; the forty I love and lose track of got a thought in the car and nothing by the driveway.

Now every Tuesday my system hands me about ten names I've gone quiet with, a warm hello drafted for each, and a memory of who it already picked, so nobody gets skipped and nobody gets pestered. 71 people so far. If someone hasn't answered three in a row, it rests them. Silence is an answer.

Where this goes wrong

Forgetting who it already picked, and reading silence as a fact. Version one handed me the same people every week. Worse, a third of my people had no readable message history in the export at all, and the AI treated that as never having talked to them. An absent thread is a fact about the export, never about the person.

The real win

Rotation beats memory. Left to my own head I text the same six people forever. A list that moves is how the other thirty-four stay in my life.

Numbers on this page come from my own system, computed 2026-09-10: 71 people the Tuesday rotation has surfaced so far.
